More than 450 international experts in the field of sophisticated car safety systems exchanged views on product innovations and new trends from industry, research and development at the Airbag Symposium 2022 in Mannheim from 28 to 30 November.

The symposium was complemented by a top-class trade exhibition with 26 exhibitors.

After four long years of waiting, the International Symposium and Exhibition on sophisticated car safety systems is back in its 15th edition!

AIRBAG-Award 2024

During the AIRBAG Symposium 2024 in Mannheim, Norbert Küster-Claus (Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg/DE) was presented with the AIRBAG Award.

Norbert Küster-Claus began his professional career at Volkswagen in 1986 within the body-in-white assembly line. From 1986 to 1998, he gained valuable experience in various roles in the vehicle painting and repair.

His passion for vehicle safety led him into the field of airbag system design in 1998, followed by different tasks and responsibilities and to his appointment into the management circle of Volkswagen AG in 2007. In the years 2008 up until today Mr. Küster-Claus has held various positions as sub-division manager for the development of door panel as well as side and front protection systems.

“Mr. Norbert Küster-Claus, his impressive career and contributions to vehicle safety are undeniable. He has not only set standards, but also protected the lives of many people. We are therefore honored to present Mr. Küster-Claus with the AIRBAG Award 2024”, said Lars Fredrik Berg, Chairman of the AIRBAG Symposium 2024.

As Norbert Küster-Claus emphasised in his speech, it was a great honour for him to receive the AIRBAG award. “It does mean very much to me. The AIRBAG Symposium and the safety community have always felt like coming home.” Küster-Claus announced to leave this community in January 2025 and took the chance to say “Auf Wiedersehen” with best wishes to everybody.
